We're excited to announce the Pennsylvania AHEC Community Oriented Rural Education (CORE) Rotation, designed to give learners a hands-on look at healthcare in our rural communities throughout the state. This rotation provides an invaluable opportunity for learners to gain real-world experience and build a strong foundation for their careers.

What is the AHEC CORE Rotation?

The AHEC CORE Rotation is a program that allows learners from various health professions to complete a portion of their clinical rotations in rural areas throughout Pennsylvania. The CORE Rotation is more than just clinical practice—it's a comprehensive 8-week (or longer) experience that combines hands-on patient care with deep community immersion. For Residents, this unique program is a 4-week experience. Our matching process pairs learners and preceptors based on their preferences to create the best possible learning experience.

Through this program, Learners will:

  • Gain diverse clinical experience by working alongside local healthcare providers.
  • Understand the unique challenges and rewards of practicing in rural settings.
  • Connect with communities and learn about the specific health needs of the region.

  • Share local knowledge and resources, ensuring learners have a rich and positive experience.
  • Play a key role in student recruitment and retention, encouraging future healthcare providers to stay in the region.

  • Who Can Participate?

We're inviting Resident, Medical Student, Nurse Practitioner, and Physician Assistant learners to apply for this unique rotation experience. We're looking for passionate individuals eager to make a difference and learn from our community's dedicated healthcare professionals.
